Description

The theme of this and why it features a guy turning into a more traditional Japanese style ghost is the works of Mr-DNA in particular, these pieces: fav.me/d381o4z, fav.me/d5qwsgk and fav.me/d5las0r

Those made want to use a Ringu inspired women as the result of this mysterious transforming but also destructive force. I did wanted to avoid linking this to a particular ghost or Yokai (which doesn't translate to ghost despite Wikipedia saying it does) to allow it to be it's own force of horror and maliciousness, that is not linked to some known creature but reminds people of them.

I wouldn't call this fan art of the pieces he did, I do want to crediting those who inspired me want to explore the concept more and do my own take on the concept of being turned into a Yurei.

On Horror and my OCD:

For the longest time I would say I hate horror, when I actually didn't like how horror was being used. I like horror that lingers with you, that grips you and follows you home from the theater. That in the middle of the night, in the darkness has you questioning things in your life beyond just fear. The kind that makes you jumpy, and makes you more than simply afraid for your life. One of my biggest fears is the loss of self, which may seem odd for one so very clearly into TF, but it is. I have OCD, the actually kind not that thing you say you are when you're a neat freak. And a common obsession of ours is that fear, less so the loss of self but the loss of control that comes with that. This piece was both an exploration of that and a way of me to combat my own obsessive fears.

So here we have a tg transformation but it is a bit off from the normal ones you see, there is no trigger. The changes are random, sudden the body and mind are rapidly changed, she is not being possessed but she is changing into a ghost, losing both his former life and mind in a few frames. I wanted to draw a TG piece to return to that but I also wanted to do horror and explore these themes so I purposefully toned down the changes in her hormonal characteristic to focus on her being drawn into the abyss instead, and those frames have more animation because of that.

This hasn't been an easy subject for me to explore either, while doing the art I was able to ignore the fears that inspired it but as I write this, I can feel the chill, my heart beating, breath shallow and my chest tightening ... and I know that means I did this right, my fears may be my own but I know I am not alone in them.

On the more art focused side, I wanted to do a challenging comic and I was considering animating it and saw a friend talking about the unseen potential of animated comics on twitter.  That made me feel it had to be animated now, though this animation is a simpler version of what I had intended to do, if I do this again I will do more planning in the sketch phase for the animation.

The Kanji in this piece isn't an actual word, it's the kanji for the sound 'fu', which when repeated is often used for laughter, the evil kind more often than not.

I am posting this on the same day as Obon, which is a Japanese tradition to honor the dead, this is unintentional and a little spooky.

I've included a download for points that has two of detailed panels (animated) and a non-gif version of this image for about 120 points. Though I may upload the non-animated later though it will likely be of a different part of the changes. I have also included a bonus image ^^

According to the ZOMBIEPEDIA, the onryo cannot be killed again, it being convenient to appease them through prayers. And unlike a traditional ghost, they are physical and emit a strong stench.
